| | | The population of Gujarat State is 5.06 crores. As on 2006, state has 30310 factories registered under the factories Act, 1948, employing 9.67 lakh workers. The total number of establishment registered under the provisions of the Bombay shops and Establishments Act, 1948 are about 15.00 lakh workers. The main functions of the department are to implement variuos labour laws enacted by the Central Government and State Government, maintain the industrial harmony and peace , and to provide skilled manpower to the industries.

This is due to effective implementation of labour laws. Industrial relations across the State have remained healthy and the instances of labour situation like strikes and lock out have been reduced in every year. In order to cut down inspector Raj state has introduce self certification schemes for industrial units. It has amended the Industrial dispute Act, 1947 for the industries in special economic zone. It has introduce to concept of fix term employment under the Indian employment order act 1946. | | 3. | The higher rate of industrial development posed maney problems of health, safety and harmony. To meet with these challenging task various strict, regular and speedy inspections are organised. Modern equipments are used and safety awareness programme for workers, supervisors, safety officers and management personal are organised. | | 4. | Implementation of the Building and other construction workers Act, 1996 has started in Gujarat State, to provide social security to the labourers of this field. The State Government is decided to ensure that the intended benefits and advantages reach the construction workers at the earliest and in full measure. | | 5. | The other unorganised and unprotected workers are also covered under the various schemes. The State Government has decided to expand the benefits of social security schemes also | | 6. | There have been huge investments in various sectors including petrochemicals, ports, energy, pharmaceuticals, information technology and other upcoming sectors. 18 Special Economic Zones are coming up at various locations in Gujarat, which will further speed up economic and industrial growth of the state. The industrial clusters in engineering, textiles, agro and food processing, mineral processing and chemicals offered a fast opportunity for employment in the industrial sector. As a consequence industrial training is going to play a major role in providing crucial manpower required for the industries.
The State Government has been in the forefront of implementing various skilled building programmes with the aim of helping people in getting jobs and this in turn facilities industrial development.
