Magnitude of Child Labour |
| 6.1 Worldwide trend of child labour |
| Child labour is a global phenomenon and exists more or less in all the countries. The prevalence is significant in developing economies. Over a period of time child labour participation has declined in almost all the countries during the period of 1950 to 2000. The incidence of child labour has no doubt declined but still is significant among Afro-Asian countries. In the year 2000, Africa had 24.92% child labour, followed by Asia 10.18%. The reason as discussed was over-population and poverty. An ILO Report of 2003 states that there are 246 millions of child labourers (aged 14 years or less) in the world. The following graph compares the trend of child labour in 1950 with child labour in 2000 across the world, which may be cleared from the following |
