Focus on migrant children

Migrant child labour is another issue and the education needs of these children should be tailored specially for them. Generally migration of families is due to natural calamity, poverty, unavailability of employment in the area, attraction of urban centers etc. Preventing migration will need long-term strategies focusing on development of receiving areas. However following actions will reduce the number of migrant child labour.
.Including migrant children under the category of ‘child in need and care of protection
.Informing Education Department about the migrant children in the families who come for activities like sugarcane cutting, construction, brick kiln etc.
.Opening sakharshalas, Bhongashalas for the children under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan
.Ensuring re-entry of migrant children in school / suitable educational stream when they come back.
.Proving Index Card to migrant children so as to facilitate their reentry in schools/alternative schools.
Actions to be taken for migrant children without families, on their own or with any mediator
.
Appointing a coordinator at District Level under Women and Child Development Department so as to keep details of migrants
.
Establishing facilitation desks at major railway junctions, by Non Government Organizations with the help the Police, providing allowance to Non Government Organizations for such desks
.
Instructing Ticket Checkers in railways so that they can inform about suspects of trafficking of children or about ‘run away’ children to nearby Railway Police; sensitizing Ticket Checkers for the same
.
Enquiring about these children and sending them back with special Police Unit
.
Interstate coordination for looking into the issue.
