Object and scope

There are a number of statutes which prohibits the employment of children below the age of 14 years and 15 years in certain specified employments. This Act provides uniformity of the age of child labour to 14 years. However, there is no procedure laid down in any law for dealing in which employments, occupations or processes, the employment of children should be banned. There is also no law to regulate the working conditions of children in most of the employments where they are not prohibited from working, so this Act is providing working condition children. This Act has been enacted to prohibit the engagement of children in certain employments and to regulate the conditions of work of children in certain other employments. This Act seeks to achieve the following objects
.To ban the employment of children below 14 years of age in certain employments.
.To lay down a procedure to decide modifications to the Schedule of banned occupations and processes.
.To regulate the conditions of work of the children, where they are not prohibited from working.
.To lay down the enhanced penalties for employment of children in violation of this Act and Acts, those prohibit the child labour.
.To obtained uniformity in the definition of child in Labour laws.
