.Salient Features of the Act
ObjectThis Act provides for the payment of equal remuneration to men and women workers for same work or of similar nature work and for the prevention of discrimination on the ground of sex against women in the matter of employment.
ApplicabilityIt extends to the whole of India and applies to all establishments. No employer shall show any discrimination against women while recruiting or framing service conditions after recruitment except where the employment of women in such work is prohibited or restricted under law.
Complaints under the ActAny compliant for discrimination in wages due to sex, shall be made in duplicate in form A before the concerned area Labour Officer. Appeal can be made against the orders of LO to ALC. Penalties are prescribed in the Act for violations.
RulesThe Equal Remuneration Rules, 1976 - applies to the whole India
