Annual Development Plan 2009-10

.Chemical Accident (Emergency Planning, Preparedness & Response) Rules, 1996 and Manufacture, Storage and Import of Hazardous Chemicals Rules, 1989

Gujarat has about 4600 hazardous chemical factories. Out of which 530 are Major Accident Hazard (MAH) factories. Compared to other states, Gujarat has the highest number of MAH factories, comprising 1/3rd of total National MAH factories. For the protection of workers working in hazardous chemical factories, people living in the vicinity of such factories and environment, the provisions of the Chemical Accident (EPPR) Rules, 1996 and Manufacturing, Storage and Import of Hazardous Chemical Rules, 1989 under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 are strictly implemented by this department.
